Description

Smith & Nephew Allevyn Sacrum is an adhesive dressing providing a superior anatomical fit on your sacral area and designed for enhancing pressure sore management. This dressing is tapered with micro-thin edges and has a unique trilaminate construction. It has three layers including a perforated wound contact layer, a central hydrocellular layer and an outer film layer.

Benefits

  • Convenience Adhesive Presentation: The wound contact layer with a low allergy adhesive adheres to the intact skin. The adhesive has a low risk of skin irritation.
  • High Absorbance: Allevyn Sacrum can stay in place for up tp 7 days as the wound contact layer passes viscous exudate into the dressing, the hydrocellular core absorbs and holds the liquid and the outer film layer evaporates the excess moisture away from the dressing
  • Promoting Early Healing: Allevyn Sacrum forms and maintains a moist healing environment, prevents eschar and enhances healing.
  • Profiled Dressing Edges: Allevyn Sacrum’s profiled cross-section narrowing to micro-thin edges makes the dressing remain in place and not to be removed.
  • Anatomical Shape: The unique anatomical sacral design leads to securely managing pressure sores and reducing the leakage risk.
  • Being Bacteria Proof/Water proof: Allevyn Sacrum’s outer polyurethane layer decreases cross-contamination and wound infections, and consequently increases patient comfort and lowers healthcare costs.
  • Cushioned Comfort: These dressings are cushioning and provide patients with comfortability and protection.

Instructions For Use

  1. Peel back the protective papers and anchor the dressing over your wound. Ensure the dressing edges are not wrinkled by smoothing the dressing into place.
  2. Place the dressing's narrow end a minimum of 2cm above the anal sphincter, then smooth the dressing over the sacral area.
  3.  Allevyn Sacrum Dressing should be inspected frequently during the early stages of treatment. It can remain in place until exudate is visible and approaches the dressing edges. The film backing prevents fluid strikethrough and protects the wound against bacterial contamination. Alllevyn Sacrum can remain in place for up to 7 days, however the frequency of dressing change depends on the wound's nature and condition.
  4. Lift the dressing corner and stretch it gently away from the wound to remove it.

Allevyn Sacrum Dressing is not compatible with oxidizing agents or hydrogen peroxide as these break down the dressing's absorbent polyurethane component. Some cases of irritation and maceration of the surrounding skin have been reported which may be caused by inappropriate use or too frequent dressing changes. It can also result in skin stripping in patients with fragile skin. Stop usage if reddening or sensitization happens and consult with a healthcare professional.
