Description

Mepilex Border Sacrum is an all-in-one foam dressing proven to minimise patient pain and trauma to the wound and surrounding skin

Features:

  • Made for the sacrum - soft and conformable
  • Prevent pressure ulcers
  • To create an optimal healing environment for moderate to high exuding pressure ulcers, or other wounds in the sacral area such as surgical excision of pilonidal cysts.

Mepilex Border Sacrum effectively absorbs and retains exudate and maintains a moist wound environment. The Safetac layer seals the wound edges, preventing the exudate from leaking onto the surrounding skin which minimises the risk for maceration. The Safetac layer ensures that the dressing can be changed without damaging the wound or surrounding skin or exposing the patient to additional pain.

Benefits:

  • Helps to prevent pressure ulcers
  • Minimises pain and trauma at dressing changes
  • A combination of excellent fluid handling capacity and retention for effective exudate management with less risk of maceration

FAQ

What is mepilex border flex used for?

Mepilex Border Flex is a type of wound dressing used in the management of wounds. It is made from a soft, conformable foam material that is designed to provide wound protection and absorb exudate (fluid) from the wound. The dressing has a flexible border that can be cut to fit the shape of the wound, which helps to reduce the risk of dressing-related trauma.

Mepilex Border Flex is commonly used for the management of a variety of wounds, including:

  1. Pressure ulcers: Mepilex Border Flex can be used to treat and prevent the development of pressure ulcers (also known as bedsores), which are common in patients who are bedridden or have limited mobility.
  2. Diabetic foot ulcers: The dressing can also be used to treat and prevent diabetic foot ulcers, which are a common complication of diabetes.
  3. Surgical wounds: Mepilex Border Flex can be used to cover and protect surgical wounds after a procedure.
  4. Chronic wounds: The dressing can be used to manage chronic wounds, such as venous leg ulcers and pressure ulcers, to help promote healing and prevent further complications.

It is important to note that the use of Mepilex Border Flex or any other wound dressing should be under the guidance and supervision of a healthcare professional. The dressing should be changed regularly and the wound should be monitored to ensure proper healing.

Is mepilex Border Flex waterproof?

Mepilex Border Flex is designed to be water-resistant, but it is not considered waterproof. The water-resistant properties of the dressing help to keep the wound site protected from external moisture, such as sweat or rain. However, if the dressing becomes saturated with exudate from the wound, it may lose its water-resistant properties and may need to be changed.

It is important to follow the instructions of the healthcare provider regarding the use of Mepilex Border Flex and any other wound dressings. In some cases, the healthcare provider may recommend using a secondary dressing, such as a waterproof cover, to provide additional protection for the wound site.

If the dressing becomes wet or soiled, it should be changed as soon as possible to reduce the risk of infection and to promote proper wound healing.

Can you shower with a Mepilex dressing on?

It is generally possible to shower with a Mepilex dressing on, but it is important to follow the instructions of the healthcare provider and to use caution when showering with a wound dressing in place.

Mepilex Border Flex is designed to be water-resistant, but it may not be completely waterproof. If the dressing becomes saturated with water, it may lose its adhesive properties and may need to be changed.

When showering with a Mepilex Border Flex dressing, it is important to:

  1. Keep the wound area covered: Cover the wound with a waterproof dressing or bandage to protect it from water and to keep the Mepilex Border Flex dressing in place.
  2. Avoid direct water exposure: Try to avoid exposing the wound dressing directly to water, such as from a showerhead or faucet.
  3. Pat the dressing dry: After showering, gently pat the dressing dry with a clean towel. Do not rub the dressing, as this may cause it to become dislodged or damaged.
  4. Change the dressing if necessary: If the Mepilex Border Flex dressing becomes wet or soiled, it may need to be changed to reduce the risk of infection and to promote proper wound healing.

It is important to follow the instructions of the healthcare provider and to monitor the wound regularly to ensure that it is healing properly. If there are any concerns or complications with the wound, the healthcare provider should be consulted.

How often should mepilex border be changed?

The frequency of changing a Mepilex Border Flex dressing will depend on several factors, including the size and location of the wound, the amount of exudate (fluid) produced by the wound, and the recommendation of the healthcare provider.

In general, wound dressings should be changed when they become saturated with exudate, when the edges of the dressing begin to lift or separate from the skin, or if the dressing becomes contaminated. Mepilex Border Flex dressings can typically remain in place for several days, but it is important to monitor the wound regularly and to change the dressing as needed to promote proper wound healing.

It is important to follow the instructions of the healthcare provider regarding the frequency of changing Mepilex Border Flex dressings, as well as the proper technique for removing and replacing the dressing. Regular monitoring of the wound and proper dressing changes are important to reduce the risk of infection and to promote proper wound healing.
