BD Ultra-Fine™ Products Transitioning to embecta Packaging: What Customers Need to Know
BD Ultra-Fine™ Diabetes Care Products Are Transitioning to embecta Packaging
Some customers may soon notice that selected BD Ultra-Fine™ pen needles and insulin syringes are arriving in updated embecta packaging. This change follows the transition of BD Diabetes Care products into embecta, a global diabetes care company focused on diabetes management solutions.
The important point for customers is simple: the packaging may look different, but affected products can continue to be ordered using the same product codes during the transition.

Why customers are seeing a different box
BD pen needles and insulin syringes are now part of embecta. As new inventory moves through the supply chain, customers may begin receiving embecta-branded packaging instead of the previous BD-branded cartons.
This is an official manufacturer-led packaging transition. It does not mean customers have received an unrelated substitute product. During the changeover, both BD-branded and embecta-branded packaging may be seen in the market.
- BD Diabetes Care products are transitioning to embecta branding.
- Product codes/SKUs remain the same for ordering.
- GTIN and barcode information is changing for affected products.
- Existing BD-branded inventory may still be supplied until depleted.
BD Packaging vs New embecta Packaging
Packaging transitions can be confusing, especially for healthcare customers, clinics, pharmacies and homecare users who are used to recognising a product by its box design. For this reason, Medisa recommends checking the product code, size, gauge and pack configuration rather than relying only on carton artwork.

For healthcare providers and procurement teams
For healthcare facilities, pharmacies and procurement teams, the most important operational change is the GTIN update. Product codes remain the same, but organisations that rely on barcode scanning, product master data or internal item setup may need to update their records.
- Continue ordering using the same SKU/product code.
- Review GTIN and barcode records where required.
- Allow for both packaging versions during the transition.
- Use FIFO stock rotation where applicable.

Frequently asked questions
Are BD Ultra-Fine™ needles discontinued?
The packaging and branding are transitioning to embecta for selected products. Customers should check the product code, size and specifications when ordering rather than relying only on the previous BD carton design.
Is embecta the same as BD Diabetes Care?
BD Diabetes Care products are now part of embecta. Customers may therefore see embecta branding replacing BD Diabetes Care branding on selected pen needle and insulin syringe packaging.
Why did my BD Ultra-Fine™ product arrive in embecta packaging?
New embecta-branded inventory is gradually entering the supply chain. During the transition, the same product code may appear in updated embecta packaging.
Can I still receive the older BD packaging?
Yes. Existing BD-branded inventory may still be supplied until depleted. During the transition period, customers may receive either BD-branded or embecta-branded packaging.
Do product codes or SKUs change?
Product codes/SKUs remain the same for ordering. However, GTIN and barcode information is changing for affected products.
What should procurement teams check?
Procurement teams should review whether their systems use GTIN, barcode or item master data for these products. If so, those records may need to be updated during the transition.
