Description

AQUACEL® Ag+Extra

AQUACEL® Ag+Extra disrupts and destroys biofilm by combining the power of MORE THAN SILVER™ and Hydrofiber™ technology.

Product features

  • Provides an antimicrobial barrier to protect the wound bed
  • Absorbs high amounts of wound fluid and bacteria
  • Creates a soft, cohesive gel that intimately conforms to the wound surface, maintains a moist environment and aids in the removal of non-viable tissue from the wound (autolytic debridement)
  • The ionic silver in the dressing kills pathogenic microorganisms, both planktonic and within bacterial biofilms, including wound bacteria, yeasts and moulds
  • Disrupts and absorbs biofilm, prevents biofilm formation/reformation and increases the efficiency of silver transfer to microorganisms

Hydrofiber™ Ag+  contains ionic silver (1.2 % w/w) in the Hydrofiber® component:  Ionic silver is an antimicrobial agent, effective against a broad spectrum of wound microbes, including antibiotic-resistant bacteria.

The content of silver in AQUACEL™ Ag+ dressing dressing is relatively low yet it has demonstrated rapid and sustained antimicrobial effects observed for at least 7 days.

Strengthening fibre:  The dressing is constructed from two layers of optimally textiled 77 g/m2 Hydrofiber™ stitchbonded together using Lyocell yarns.

Additionally, the fibres contain low levels of excipients that will enhance the rate of the dressing's antimicrobial effect and its ability to control, disrupt and remove colonies of surface-attached bacteria.

The excipients are benzethonium chloride (BEC surfactant) and di-sodium EDTA dihydrate (EDTA a chelating agent).

FAQ

What is Aquacel AG used for?

Aquacel AG is a type of wound dressing that contains silver and is used to manage and treat infected wounds, as well as wounds that have a high risk of infection. The silver in Aquacel AG has antimicrobial properties that help to prevent or treat infections in the wound, while the hydrofiber technology in the dressing helps to create a moist wound environment that promotes healing. Aquacel AG is typically used for moderate to highly exuding wounds, such as pressure ulcers, diabetic foot ulcers, surgical wounds, and traumatic wounds. However, it is important to consult with your healthcare provider before using Aquacel AG or any other wound dressing to ensure it is appropriate for your specific wound and medical history.

Can I use Aquacel on open wound?

Yes, Aquacel can be used on an open wound. In fact, Aquacel is specifically designed for use on wounds, including open wounds.

What is the difference between Aquacel Ag Extra and Aquacel Ag Extra Silver?

Aquacel Ag Extra and Aquacel Ag Extra Silver are both wound dressings that contain silver, but there are some differences between the two products. Aquacel Ag Extra Silver has a higher concentration of silver, making it more effective at killing bacteria and preventing infection. Additionally, Aquacel Ag Extra Silver has a thicker layer of hydrofiber than Aquacel Ag Extra, which can help it better manage highly exuding wounds.

How often should I change the Aquacel Ag Extra dressing?

The frequency of dressing changes will depend on the amount of exudate produced by the wound. In general, Aquacel Ag Extra should be changed every 1-3 days or as directed by your healthcare provider.
